Review ::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::

The Bolt Throwers of black metal are back with their 6th album simply entitled “A Darker Monument”. I do have to change my initial description though, as the band sounds more American death metal on this album than anything else they have recorded in the past. Long gone are their war sounding epic black metal hymns whose low pitched guitars and groaning vocals resembled Bolt Thrower in a black metal fashion. This album is closer to death metal than ever, with a properly “dry” yet grand sounding mix (especially on the vocals) avoiding any form of extreme reverberation. Classic death metal guitar riffs have replaced the epic mid tempo moments usually to be found in their early material. Musically this is still very Aeternus but opens a portal to a new direction, or better say a new chapter to the band’s long running career!
