"Primitive" Greek Artwork: Outdoor Statuary

The Archaic Greeks developed the 1st freestanding statuary, an awesome achievement as most sculptures up until then had been reliefs cut into walls and pillars. or-127__71859.jpg Most of the freestanding statues were of youthful, winsome male or female (kore) Greeks and are referred to as kouros figures. Symbolizing beauty to the Greeks, the kouroi were created to appear stiff and always had foot in front; the males were healthy, powerful, and nude. In 650 BC, life-size forms of the kouroi began to be seen. The Archaic period was an amazing time of change for the Greeks as they extended into new forms of government, created novel expressions of art, and gained information of the people and cultures outside of Greece. Battles like The Arcadian wars, the Spartan invasion of Samos, and other wars among city-states are indicative of the disruptive nature of the time, which was similar to other periods of historical upset. However, these conflicts did not significantly hinder the advancement of the Greek civilization.

A Peek into the Roots of Fountains

As the leader of the Catholic Church, the scholarly Pope Nicholas V (1397-1455} decided to mandate translations of invaluable writings from their original Greek into Latin. In addition, embellishing the city and making it the true capital of the Christian world was at the heart of his ambitions. Beginning in 1453, he called for the restoration of the Acqua Vergine, a wrecked Roman aqueduct which had transported fresh drinking water into the city from eight miles away. In addition, the ancient Roman tradition of marking the arrival point of an aqueduct with an grandiose celebratory fountain, also referred to as a mostra, was restored by Nicholas V.

The fascinating roots of the Trevi Fountain go back to an older fountain he had commissioned to the architect Leon Battista Alberti. The aqueduct he had reconditioned included changes and extensions which eventually allowed it to supply the necessary water to the Trevi Fountain as well as the famed baroque fountains in the Piazza del Popolo and the Piazza Navona.

Animals and Fountains

Give some thought to how your cat or dog may react to a water feature before you get one. Pets such as dogs may confuse your freestanding fountain with a big pool to cool down in or a pond from which to drink. Your beloved pets will probably take well to a fountain feature in your yard. Think about the best place to put your water feature if you do not want birds to use it as a bathing pond. If you wish to purposely entice birds, however, putting in a birdbath is a good solution. The indoor use of wall water fountains is completely possible if wish to avoid these problems. Dentists’ and doctors’ offices as well as manor homes are just a few of the places where you can find these types of fountains.

How Fountains can be Good for the Environment

Are you looking to adorn your residence? Well, think about adding beauty and value to your residence by installing a solar powered water feature. Solar powered water features can be a wiser investment versus electric ones because they not only improve one's health but they offer other interesting financial perks. Despite initial expenses, the long-term expense for this type of fountain is worth it. Despite occasional power shortages, your fountain will not be affected as it does not run on electricity.

Constant running water fountains will most probably lead to a higher electric bill at the end of the month. Although short-term expenses might be more substantial than you had anticipated, don't forget that your home is increasing in value.

The issue with using more electricity is not solely about our bills, the effect on the environment is considerable. Solar powered water fountains get their energy directly from the sun thus making them the ideal “green” fountain. The environment can only benefit from the use of solar powered homes and water fountains.

This sort of water fountain doesn't need as much upkeep as others.

These water features require less cleaning than other kinds. Since these do not run using an electric generator that could clog up with debris, they need little cleaning.

And this means more you time!
